new releases we can't put down!

spring always brings with it a big bounty of fresh new releases from our favorite book publishers. here are a few of our favorites from the last few months!

the charlottesville farmers' market is open again, and from what we hear,
it is already bringing the goods!
taro gomi's books are always a big hit, and we love the great day
nikki mcclure's newest book illustrations are for this incredibly lovely story by jeremy chatelain.
mr. tiger goes wild has been getting great press among reviewers, and we're smitten with the bright palette and charismatic star of this tale.
like nikki mcclure, hannah viano creates her bold images through intricately cut paper.
we love everything jon klassen (author of i want my hat back) touches.
esteemed illustrator jerry pinkney is back with another fresh take on one of aesop's fables,
this time the tortoise and the hare.

we are thrilled that chronicle books has taken on twirl books and their innovative and interactive titles. who doesn't want 60 movable parts in your ultimate book of vehicles?!
the world belongs to you is illustrated by one of our favorite italian artists, olimpia zagnoli, and we were instantly taken after reading just the first two pages:
"the world belongs to you. and you belong to the world."
(p.s. we actually think this would also be a great graduation gift for all ages!)
two new titles from lorena siminovich of petit collage.
all of the "you are my baby" series have been a big hit with the board book set.

we'd love to help you pick out the perfect book for any of the little ones in your life -- come see us!

cozy classics

many of our readers know that we have a love of anything needle felted, and we can't get enough of a new series of board books called cozy classics. twin brothers jack & holman wang recreate classic characters in wool and simplify the stories to a collection of single words that still convey the gist of the original. the detail is incredible, and the setting and photography only add to their work. their version of moby dick is a favorite around here, and we're excited that the series is continuing with emma, jane eyre, and oliver twist this fall!

just in!
 due out this fall!

The Great Charley Harper

In 2007 the world lost an amazing artist in Charley Harper, but that doesn't mean that his work and life aren't still being enjoyed and appreciated. This being said, we are proud to have Todd Oldham's book Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life on our shelves. This book is an epic volume featuring over 400 pages of artwork by C. Harper throughout his 60+ year career and the price is right at $49.95, as compared to it's still in print and most lovely predecessor at $200! this book is hands down gorgeous and if you are a lover of art and or of creatures, great and small, this book will make you happy, or better yet make a loved one happy!!

one of the many joys of parenting is reading to your kid(s). though we are not reading long stories to red yet we are not far from a time when i hope redford will want a story every night at the very least. when he is ready, we will be too, as the book collection just gets better by the day at o'suz (and in red's bookcase). here are just a few titles we have at o'suz that seem like fun fall reading.
